French publisher and developer Don’t Nod (Life is Strange, Vampyr) reported on the results of otherworldly action Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and mountaineering adventure Jusant, as well as their influence on other studio projects.
Despite high critical acclaim, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Jusant were sales failures, performing “well below” Don’t Nod management’s expectations.
«We are obviously disappointed with our recent results in this incredibly competitive and selective market,” said Don’t Nod CEO and Chairman Oscar Guilbert.
Due to the failure of Banishers and Jusant, Don’t Nod’s operating revenue for the first half of 2024 fell compared to the same period in 2023 to €14.5 million, although sales revenue (mostly older games) increased by €1.2 million
Against the backdrop of failures, Don’t Nod suspended the production of two games at the design stage (P12 and P13), and refocused two more (P10 and P14, due out before 2028) for a wider audience, which for P10 means abandoning some of its developments.
Don’t Nod intends to focus its efforts and resources on intellectual property with the highest potential for return on investment in the short to medium term.
Don’t Nod’s next release will be the adventure Lost Records: Bloom & Rage for PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The studio is currently in negotiations with “industry leaders to ensure economic benefits.”
