Nvidia is rumored to announce GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs late this year or early next year. Usually, as new products approach, the price of current video cards decreases. But, apparently, the GeForce RTX 4090 will not become cheaper. In the European market and in Germany in particular, an increase in prices for flagship accelerators has already been noticed.
At the start of sales, the price of the GeForce RTX 4090 in Germany was €1949, but between February and May of the following year it quickly dropped to €1859, and later to €1769. This was the price of the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition on the Nvidia website, which is considered the recommended retail price. Now the situation on the German market has changed significantly.
The German publication 3DCenter noticed the price change and conducted a study that compared the cost of accelerators from three large retailers, which usually have a large inventory of products. Currently, only one of them (Alternate) sells graphics cards for €1,959, while others have raised prices to €2,304 and even €2,668. You can find cheaper cards from smaller retailers, but there are not many of them.
At the moment, none of the accelerator manufacturers have announced that they will soon cease production of the GeForce RTX 4090. For most of the period that the video card has been on the market, its stocks have been in significant excess. However, it now turns out that most of the accumulated accelerators were snapped up by companies and individuals who needed powerful graphics cards for tasks such as working with generative neural networks and training large language models (LLM).
However, during its two-year lifespan, the GeForce RTX 4090 was rarely available at a price lower than Nvidia’s recommended price. Seeing the price increase for the GeForce RTX 4090, some gamers will likely consider selling their graphics cards to prepare for the GeForce RTX 5090. However, at the moment it is unclear when this accelerator will hit the market and, more importantly, how much it will cost.
