Social network X met halfway with the Supreme Court of Brazil and, in accordance with its requirements, began blocking some accounts, reports the local publication Correio Braziliense. Against this background, there were reports that X had again become available to Brazilian users, but there were no official statements in this regard.
Accounts belonging to Brazilian bloggers Bruno Aiub and Allan dos Santos were blocked; they are suspected by the country’s authorities of “spreading disinformation and facilitating attacks on government information bodies.” Earlier, a conflict broke out between the owner of the social network, Elon Musk, and the judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil, Alexandre de Moraes – the businessman refused not only to delete messages and block accounts, but also to appoint an official representative of the platform in the country. The latter requirement has still not been met, so the blocking of X in Brazil remains in force.
In April, the administration of the social network X announced the forced blocking of popular accounts in Brazil due to decisions of the country’s Supreme Court. On August 17, the company announced that it was stopping operations in Brazil due to a conflict with the authorities. On August 30, the Supreme Court decided to block the platform in the country because it failed to comply with the order to appoint a legal representative in Brazil. The next day, Musk promised that he would publish Judge Moraes’ “long list of crimes.” And on September 8, residents of the country held protests in support of the platform’s work in Brazil.
