Laptops with Intel Lunar Lake have really long battery life – the Lenovo Yoga lasted almost 24 hours

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition laptop based on the latest Core Ultra 7 258V processor from the Lunar Lake series significantly outperformed the MacBook Air on the M-series processor from Apple in terms of autonomy. This confirms Intel’s claims of outstanding battery life on its latest Lunar Lake chips.

Intel has lagged behind rivals like Apple in the energy efficiency of its laptop chips for years. However, if early reviews are anything to go by, the latest line of Lunar Lake processors may finally help Intel regain its lost ground. A wave of Core Ultra 200-based laptops is about to hit the market, and their battery life figures are impressive.

The Lenovo PC YouTube channel compared the autonomy of the latest Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition laptop based on the latest Core Ultra 7 258V processor with laptops based on Apple M2 and M3 processors. The test involved watching video in 1080p resolution at 24 frames per second, with screen brightness at 150 cd/m2 and Wi-Fi turned off.

The M2 MacBook Air laptop worked under these conditions for 18 hours and 19 minutes. The model on the Apple M3 lasted a little longer – 18 hours and 32 minutes. However, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition laptop continued to work. Its battery died after only 23 hours and 54 minutes. To be fair, it should be noted that the Yoga Slim 7i is equipped with a slightly more capacious 70 Wh battery. In turn, MacBooks carry 66.5 Wh batteries. And yet, the Lenovo laptop was able to work almost a third longer than its competitors, despite the slight advantage in its battery capacity.

Of course, watching videos is just one scenario for using a laptop. The real test of endurance will be testing devices under intense workloads. Winning the race for laptop battery life isn’t just about increasing video playback time, it’s also about achieving the perfect balance of battery life and performance.

Still, Lenovo’s test is just one example of what manufacturers of laptops based on Lunar Lake promise. For example, Acer says some of its latest laptops with these chips will last up to 29 hours on 65 Wh batteries. Asus makes similar claims regarding its latest ExpertBooks laptop models.

As for the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i, the eight-core Core Ultra 7 258V used in it has a frequency of up to 4.8 GHz. The laptop received 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM and runs Windows 11 24H2.

The device also offers a 15.3-inch 1800p 120Hz display, 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage, and Wi-Fi 7 support. It will start at $1,279.99. The start of sales of the laptop is expected in the coming weeks.
