Huawei, in addition to the global versions of the MatePad Pro 12.2 and MatePad 12 X tablets, presented a range of smart watches: Watch GT 5, GT 5 Pro, a new version of Watch Ultimate, as well as Watch D2 with the ability to measure pressure.
Huawei Watch GT 5 will be released in two sizes: 41 and 46 mm with round OLED displays with a diagonal of 1.32 and 1.43 inches, respectively. Both have a resolution of 466×466 pixels. The watch is made of 316L stainless steel, and Huawei has been able to reduce its thickness slightly. For example, the 41mm model is 0.3mm thinner than its predecessor, the Watch GT 4 series, with a choice of metal, leather, plastic and woven straps.
Huawei has improved the navigation capabilities of the Watch GT 5 series, equipping them with an upgraded antenna and an algorithm for improved positioning – route determination accuracy has increased by 40%, distance and speed measurements have increased by 30 and 20%, respectively.
The Watch GT 5 also features Huawei TruSense technology, which includes the usual heart rate and blood oxygen measurements, as well as sleep tracking. The sleep-disordered breathing function found in the Watch GT 4 has been expanded to include sleep apnea detection. The watch also offers tools for tracking women’s health. And the new Emotions feature allows users to better assess their emotional state and take timely measures to prevent the negative effects of stress.
The Watch GT 5 Pro smart watch differs in case materials. These new items are available in sizes 42 and 46 mm: in the first case, the case is made of ceramic, and in the second, of titanium alloy. The watch is equipped with the same displays as the Watch GT 5, which are protected by sapphire crystal. The smaller version has a ceramic strap, while larger models are available with titanium or fluoroelastomer straps.
The Watch GT 5 Pro supports all the same Huawei TruSense features, but also offers the ability to take an ECG – which takes about 30 seconds. Huawei has also put an emphasis on using the watch for running, supporting offline maps with route previews that indicate elevation changes and show terrain details. In addition, the watch tracks the direction of travel in real time, offers navigation along sections of the route and warns if the user deviates from the route. The watch integrates with Komoot. When the user reaches the finish line, the watch provides running form analysis, measuring ground contact time, vertical oscillation, balance and more.
The GT 5 Pro also adds a Free Diving mode with 40m water resistance and depth tracking. The watch is also IP69K rated for protection against hot water jets and is resistant to salt spray corrosion thanks to a special coating on the outer surface. Finally, this watch may appeal to golf enthusiasts, with over 15,000 golf course maps available with 3D previews and precise directions.
Huawei Watch GT 5 and GT 5 Pro will provide long battery life. More compact versions (41 and 42 mm) will last up to 5 days with Always On Display (AOD) enabled and up to 7 days with normal use. The larger 46mm models will last 9 days with AOD and up to 14 days with normal use. GT 5 Pro versions support wireless charging and are fully charged in 60 minutes.
The Huawei Watch Ultimate was released last year in two versions: blue and black. Now a third color has appeared – green. The green version features a two-tone nanotech ceramic bezel that surrounds a sapphire crystal. The choice of straps has also expanded: they have become green, with a woven design, made of synthetic rubber and titanium.
Sales of new Huawei smartwatches began today. Huawei Watch GT 5 in sizes 41 and 46 mm will cost from 249 euros depending on the country, Watch GT 5 Pro 46 mm from 379 euros, and Watch GT 5 Pro 42 mm from 449 euros. Finally, the new Huawei Watch Ultimate sells for 899 euros.
