Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman: the fan version of Half-Life 3 has risen from the dead and will soon receive a demo prologue

While Valve is rumored to be working on the real Half-Life 3, passionate fans continue to work on an unofficial version of the threequel. The Project Borealis team shared their first news in several years.

Let us remind you that Project Borealis is a game based on the Epistle 3 story published in 2017 by former series screenwriter Marc Laidlaw with a veiled plot of the failed Half-Life 3.

From 2017 to 2020, the Project Borealis team delighted fans with reports on the progress of the project, after which it went into radio silence: from time to time the team posted individual images, but in 2022 their flow also stopped.

Four years later, a new video has appeared on the Project Borealis YouTube channel – a 29-second announcement trailer for Project Borealis: Prologue. This is an interactive prologue, a demo of the future reimagining.

«Return to the snowy streets of Ravenholm in this reimagined sequel to the Half-Life saga. Project Borealis: Prologue is a fan-made gaming experience set before Project Borealis,” the description reads.

Enthusiasts still haven’t specified the release date for the main game, but Project Borealis: Prologue won’t have to wait long: the interactive prologue will be released before the end of autumn of this year.

According to Laidlaw’s story, after the events of Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance were supposed to go to Antarctica in search of the research vessel Northwind, which was hiding technologies desired by the Alliance.
