Recent rumors have already pushed GTA VI to 2026, but according to former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij, the time has not yet come for the hotly anticipated open-world crime thriller to be delayed.
Let us remind you that billsyliamgta from GTA Base reported, citing “several developers in two studios,” that Rockstar has postponed the release of GTA VI to the first half of 2026. The employees, however, did not confirm this information.
Commenting on the situation on his microblog the other day, Vermeil remembered that GTA IV was once decided to be postponed four months before the original release date, but for GTA VI this moment has not yet arrived.
«The further [from release], the more difficult it is to make a decision. Rockstar probably won’t be in a position until around May to determine whether it will be able to release the game in 2025,” Vermeil said.
The former technical director of Rockstar North added that he has no inside information about the timing of the release of GTA VI, but assured that the studio will not release the game “until it is 100% happy with it, regardless of what is said in the trailer.”
Vermeil worked at Rockstar from 1995 to 2009 and clearly has an understanding of how the studio makes GTA games. Therefore, for example, a specialist does not expect from GTA VI the technological leap that fans are counting on.
Officially, GTA VI is expected in the fall of 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The recently announced PS5 Pro, according to a Digital Foundry expert, will not cope with the new game in 4K and 60 frames/s.
