Apple has increased the cost of battery replacement for its new flagship smartphones iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Now replacing batteries on devices without an extended warranty in official Apple services will cost $119, that is, 20% more compared to the iPhone 15 Pro, for which the service cost $99. The price includes both the battery itself and the work of a specialist. However, the price may vary at different authorized service centers.
According to the MacRumors website, the cost increase affected only Pro-series models. Battery replacements for the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will still cost $99, the same as for all iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 models. As a reminder, before the release of the iPhone 14, battery replacement costs were $69 for all models starting with the iPhone 13. So Thus, this is the second price increase for this service in recent years.
Apple attributes the price increase to several factors. Firstly, all iPhone 16 models received increased battery capacity. Secondly, at least some of the devices have undergone internal restructuring for better heat dissipation. There are also rumors that at least some iPhone 16 models will have metal batteries, which could also affect the price. A more detailed picture can be obtained after disassembling the devices by specialists.
It is noted that iPhone 16 Pro owners who have signed up for an extended AppleCare+ warranty will still be able to replace the battery for free, but only if its capacity is below 80% of the original.
