As it became known, the editors of the Guinness Book of Records recognized Garry’s Mod, a popular physics sandbox from Gary Newman and Facepunch Studios, as the best-selling PC exclusive in history.
The official microblog of the game reported on the inclusion of Garry’s Mod in the newest edition of the gaming version of the Guinness Book of Records, attaching a photo of the book to the message (see image below).
«I could never imagine that I would become a world record holder without having anything to do with shrimp cocktail-flavored chips,” Newman himself commented on the achievement of his project.
Garry’s Mod debuted in November 2006 and over the past almost 18 years has earned more than 1 million “extremely positive” reviews on Steam. Sales as of September 2021 exceeded 20 million copies.
It is worth noting that history knows plenty of games whose sales on PC exceeded 20 million copies (PUBG: Battlegrounds, Minecraft, Terraria and others), but they are not exclusive to this platform.
Newman is currently working on the spiritual successor to Garry’s Mod – the sandbox S&box on the Source 2 engine – and intends to surpass his most famous creation in every aspect.
