The announcement of the PS5 Pro for $700 shook up the gaming community, but the official presentation left the main question unanswered: will the expensive GTA VI console handle 4K at 60 frames/s? A Digital Foundry expert spoke on the topic.
Let us remember that during the December analysis of the GTA VI trailer, Digital Foundry experts came to the conclusion that the video reflected the real quality of graphics on PS5 or Xbox Series X, but on consoles the game will only run at 30 frames/s.
The PS5 Pro is up to 45% faster than the regular PS5 and has 67% more compute units in the GPU, but achieving 60 fps in GTA VI, according to Digital Foundry expert Richard Leadbetter, will not help it.
«The PS5 Pro uses the exact same CPU as the PS5 and will have an incredibly difficult time hitting 60fps if the base PS5 is targeting 30fps. This is not a GPU problem, but a CPU problem,” says Leadbetter.
The fact is that the GTA series games (and the new part will certainly not be an exception) have traditionally been distinguished by a complex simulation of the world, and it requires CPU resources.
What a specialist still expects from GTA VI on PS5 Pro is improved image quality compared to the base console and a more stable frame rate: GTA IV and GTA V on PS3 and Xbox 360, for example, could not boast of it.
PS5 Pro will go on sale on November 7, but GTA VI will have to wait until the fall of 2025. The other day there were rumors about the release being postponed to 2026, but Bloomberg informants at Rockstar Games did not confirm them.
