In recent years, Activision has given those who pre-order a new Call of Duty (usually a week) early access to the story campaign, but the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will go in a different direction.
A statement from Activision sent to CharlieIntel confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s story campaign will not have any early access – all game modes will be released on the same day, October 25th.
«This year, we decided to give the community the opportunity to dive into all the modes they want at once, so we are returning to one massive global release on October 25th,” says Activision.
According to Activision, the team is “entirely focused on October 25th” and preparing the campaign, multiplayer and zombie mode: “So there will be no early access for Black Ops 6 this year, just a countdown to release.”
The practice of providing early access to completed games is generally frowned upon among gamers, but was appreciated by dedicated Call of Duty fans for the opportunity to try out the campaign before the release of multiplayer.
The comments under CharlieIntel’s post are filled with criticism of Activision’s decision and threats of skipping the story campaign this year. “No matter how you look at it, it doesn’t make sense,” says CallOfBenzo.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S and Game Pass. Activision is aiming to reduce the size of the client for games in the series – the new part will be “lighter” than last year’s Modern Warfare 3.
