This week, Apple introduced AirPods 4 wireless headphones in two versions, which will replace AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. Both models have received an updated design, and the more expensive version supports active noise cancellation. At the same time, new Apple headphone models will be supplied without a USB Type-C charging cable.

Apple did not mention changes in the package of new headphones during their presentation, but this information is confirmed by data on the company’s official website. On the comparison page for all versions of AirPods available for purchase, there is a note that says that the USB Type-C cable is sold separately for the new AirPods 4. However, other versions of the headphones still come with a charging cable, including the updated AirPods Max model, which also received a USB Type-C interface.

The change in configuration occurred along with the transition to the use of charging cases with a USB Type-C interface. Previously, charging cases for wireless headphones were equipped with a proprietary Lightning port. Many Apple device users already have a USB Type-C cable, especially now that this connector is used in the iPhone and iPad.

At the same time, there are many users of older iPhones with a Lightning port in the world who may not have a USB Type-C cable. Let us remind you that in 2022, Apple stopped providing its TV set-top boxes with a USB Type-C cable. In 2020, the power adapter disappeared from the iPhone 12 package, which the company explained due to concern for the environment.

Only the more expensive noise-cancelling version of the AirPods 4 comes with a case that supports MagSafe and Qi wireless charging. Both versions of the headphones are available for pre-order and will go on sale on September 20. The base AirPods 4 costs $129, while the noise-cancelling version of the AirPods 4 costs $179.
