On the eve of the official release, the platformer Astro Bot from the Sony Interactive Entertainment studio Team Asobi received ratings from the Western press. Judging by the first reviews, players are in for top-class entertainment.
The aggregator website Metacritic has accumulated nearly a hundred reviews of Astro Bot with an average rating of 94%. On OpenCritic the picture is similar – 94% (the game is recommended by all 100% of critics), but there are only 30 reviews.
Astro Bot has already become the highest rated game of 2024 on Metacritic – the previous leader was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (92%). Only Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has a higher score (95%), but this is an add-on, not a full release.
Reviewers were delighted with the platforming component, the inventive levels and ways to use the DualSense controller, the abundance of references and secrets, music and visuals.
The disadvantages of the project include simple bosses, the lack of a mode for speed-passing levels (will be added after release), the superficial nature of some cameos and minor technical problems (including with the camera).
Critics agreed that Astro Bot turned out to be a wonderful adventure, which every PS5 owner must go on: a new star named Astro has lit up in the PlayStation firmament.
Astro Bot will be released tomorrow, September 6, only on PS5. In the story, Astro’s old enemies attack the PS5 mothership: the team is scattered throughout space, and only a brave robot can save the crew and the starship itself.
