Data miners found suspicious hints of a cow level in Diablo IV – they were hidden in update 2.0

The upcoming major update 2.0 for Blizzard Entertainment’s action-RPG Diablo IV will bring with it not only many gameplay changes, but also new content for seekers of the elusive cow level.

Version 2.0 recently became available on the Diablo IV PTR, and Wowhead found several potential hints about the addition of a secret area.

Firstly, data miners discovered a rusty can in the test version, which “smells of manure.” In Diablo III, access to the “Non-Cow Level” was unlocked by a cow’s butt – a new weapon could potentially have a similar function.

Secondly, Wowhead staff noticed four new items for the task: an unusual key, an old rusty bell (with traces of blood and a scrawled W), a crooked staff and a chatty gem.

The last three items seem to be an obvious reference to Wirt’s bell, shepherd’s crook and muttering stone, which in Diablo III opened the way to another secret level – “Wonderland” (Whimsyshire).

Although the items found by dataminers hint at the addition of a secret cow level to Diablo IV, users do not yet know where to find them and how to use them to gain access to the new content.

Testing of update 2.0 will last until September 11. The full release of the patch is expected on October 8 with the release of the paid story add-on Vessel of Hatred and the start of the sixth content season, “Season of Hate.”
