“Worse than horse armor”: the only addition to Age of Mythology: Retold launched on Steam with “very negative” reviews

Before the mythological strategy Age of Mythology: Retold had earned critical acclaim and hit the shelves of digital stores, it had already become the epicenter of a small scandal.

In addition to all the other elements, the creators of Age of Mythology: Retold have updated the portraits of the gods in the game, but for nostalgic fans they are selling the old ones for $6 with the Legacy Deity Portrait Pack – the only one (for now) for the game.

Age of Mythology: Retold itself has “very positive” reviews on Steam (92% rating), while “The Divine Legacy” received only 17 out of 100% (“very negative” reviews) from customers.

The Legacy Deity Portrait Pack is included in the Age of Mythology: Retold Premium Edition, but is also sold separately

Steam user reviews agreed that the add-on should have been free – essentially a set of 22-year-old images that a modder could embed into the game in a few hours.

«Worse than horse armor,” The Wolf of Walmart recalled Bethesda’s old sins. Chong argues that only longtime fans of the series will be interested in the old portraits, so the DLC should be distributed free of charge.

Age of Mythology: Retold was released today, September 4, on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, as well as Game Pass. On Metacritic, the game earned an 84% for the PC version and 79% for the console version.
