A Microsoft representative, at the request of Forbes, commented on the delay in the release of the fantasy action role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong from the Chinese studio Game Science on Xbox consoles.
Black Myth: Wukong was released on August 20 on PC and PS5, while the game is still not available on Xbox Series X and S. The developers themselves motivated the transfer with optimization problems, but the situation turned out to be not so clear-cut.
Forbes and IGN recently reported that the delay was not the result of technical problems, but of Game Science’s behind-the-scenes deal with Sony. At the same time, several insiders immediately issued a refutation of this information.
In a new statement (last dated June 21), a Microsoft representative once again assured that the company is working together with Game Science to release Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X and S.
«”We would prefer not to comment on transactions between our partners and other platform holders, but can confirm that the delay is not related to limitations of the Xbox platform, of which we are aware,” Microsoft said.
Forbes admits that Game Science’s potential deal with PlayStation, which Microsoft has also hinted at, was unusual and may not have included the traditional marketing campaign or even payment for an exclusivity period.
According to insiders, Sony’s participation in the fate of Black Myth: Wukong was limited to helping Game Science adapt the game for PS5. Forbes has requested comment from Game Science and Sony, but has not yet received a response.
