User ShakeMistake found out how many actual steps you will have to take to get across the entire map in the role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. At the same time, he checked the words of Bethesda Game Studios executive producer Todd Howard about the duration of the climb to High Hrothgar.
To get from Riften to Solitude, ShakeMistake had to take 14,052 steps in place (10–11 km). He talked about his journey, which took almost three hours, in the video below.
ShakeMistake used a body motion capture system, and the Stepl app matched his steps to the movements of the game character. He also activated God Mode and turned off AI detection, as the inevitable encounters with enemies would lengthen his journey.
The most interesting part of the walk concerns the aforementioned ascent to the highest mountain of Skyrim and all of Tamriel – the Throat of the World, on the slope of which the High Hrothgar fort is located. According to the history of the Skyrim world, the monastery is located at an altitude of seven thousand steps. In one of the Game Informer podcasts, Todd Howard joked that he counted the steps on his own and was convinced of the veracity of the name of this place, but in fact there are an order of magnitude fewer of them (700–800 – it’s impossible to know more precisely because of the snow covering the stairs). As it turned out, 7000 steps are also out of the question: ShakeMistake only needed to take 2500. However, 7000 would be gained if you count the entire path there and back from the foot of the Throat of the World to the dragon Paarthurnax living at its top.
In the comments, users pointed out to the blogger several inaccuracies he had made. In particular, he measured the distance not at the extreme points of the map: the longest distance would be from the throne of Karstaag in the ruins of Castle Karstaag Ruins in the Dragonborn expansion to the balcony in the Inner Sanctum – a cave in the Forgotten Vale. , available in the Dawnguard addon. Viewers also noted that all objects in Skyrim are presented on a scale of 1:10, so in reality the game world is much larger.
In a similar vein, ShakeMistake plays not only Skyrim, but also Grand Theft Auto V and Star Wars Outlaws (videos available on his YouTube channel). In a separate video, the gamer explained how to configure Stepl for games.
In February of this year, another user for the first time managed to complete Skyrim without cheats and mods 100% (including leveling up all abilities and skills, finding all the items and buying and furnishing all the houses).
