As promised, the day before the start of expanded access, review aggregators were flooded with reviews of the hotly anticipated third-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, developed by Saber Interactive.
Metacritic has already accumulated about fifty reviews of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 with an average rating of 81-84% depending on the platform. On OpenCritic the picture is similar – 83% with 17 reviews (94% of critics recommend the game).
For comparison: the original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine already 13 years ago earned lower scores from journalists on Metacritic – around 70-76%. So, at least in this respect, the sequel has already surpassed the first game.
Reviewers were delighted with the brutal and dynamic gameplay, the scope of battles, the cooperative PvE Operations mode and overall cooperative play, as well as the quality of graphics and sound.
The disadvantages included problems with maintaining pacing in the campaign, exhaustion of gameplay towards the end of the playthrough, a small amount of content in “Operations” at launch, and technical problems (with graphics, performance, online play).
Critics agreed that Space Marine 2 was a great, straightforward action game that doesn’t try to pretend to be something it’s not. According to journalists, fans of the franchise will especially like the game.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released on September 9 on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and premium edition buyers will start playing on the 5th. The other day, the authors revealed the system requirements and the project’s development plan after release.
