Google announced integration of Gemini AI assistant into Gmail

Google is changing the way it searches for information in Gmail. Instead of searching for letters manually, users will be able to ask questions to the Gemini chatbot, which will analyze all mail and provide the necessary data. The new feature, called Gmail Q&A, will be available on Android devices for now, TechCrunch reported.

Gmail Q&A lets you interact with Google’s Gemini AI directly within the Gmail app, using it as your personal email assistant. Gemini can analyze a user’s entire inbox and perform various tasks, such as providing brief summaries of emails on a specific topic or searching for specific information in correspondence.

For example, you might ask Gemini to “update quarterly planning letters” or find out “how much the company spent on its last marketing event.” However, like other AI models, Gemini is subject to errors and inaccuracies, so it is recommended that you check the data it provides.

Traditionally, to find information in Gmail, you had to use the search bar. Now the search bar will also be available, but a Gemini button will be added next to it. Now, instead of searching for the right letter, users can optionally receive the necessary information directly from the chatbot, which will link to the source in its responses.

Currently, Gmail Q&A is only available to Gemini and Google One AI Premium subscribers. The subscription cost will be about $20 per month. The feature can be accessed through the black star icon in the upper right corner of the application, which has already become the Gemini symbol in Google products. Later, Gmail Q&A will be able to work not only with letters, but also with Google Drive account files.

Google will also add Gemini to all of its existing products, including Google Docs, Google Calendar and more. As TechCrunch notes, it’s unfortunately unlikely that Gmail’s Q&A feature will be available to free users any time soon. The company also announced the imminent availability of this feature on iOS devices.
