Meta✴ is working on creating mixed reality glasses designed for those who do not like using a heavy headset for a long time, The Information reported. The new wearable device, codenamed Puffin, which looks like ordinary, slightly bulky glasses, will not appear on the market until 2027, unless, of course, the company continues to develop it.

According to sources, the glasses weigh about 110 grams, which is more than the weight of Meta✴’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, but significantly less than the bulkier Quest 3 headset. Due to the smaller form factor, the glasses can have an external unit with a battery and processor – similar to a wired battery , included with the Apple Vision Pro headset.

It is also reported that the new glasses will be equipped with pancake lenses, which will provide the new product with a thinner profile. The device will support video pass-through so the wearer can see surrounding objects beyond the displays, as well as the use of hand and eye tracking for control.

Last week, The Information reported that Meta✴ had decided to cancel a project to further develop the La Jolla virtual reality headset due to the high final price, which cast doubt on its sales prospects. The company is expected to present new augmented reality glasses, Orion, at the Meta✴ Connect event in September, which have been in development for several years.
