CoreWeave will deploy Europe’s largest AI cluster NVIDIA Blackwell in Sweden

Cloud provider CoreWeave intends to rent a data center from the Swedish operator EcoDataCenter. According to Datacenter Dynamics, the partners announced cooperation to host “one of the largest” NVIDIA Blackwell clusters in Europe.

CoreWeave said it will deploy thousands of new NVIDIA accelerators to meet demand for large-scale AI infrastructure from leading AI labs and companies. These clusters should start operating in 2025. Further details about what facilities will be used and the actual scale of the project are unknown. According to a CoreWeave representative, cooperation with EcoDataCenter was a turning point for expansion in Europe.

EcoDataCenter was formed in 2015 by Swedish energy company Falu Energi & Vatten and data center operator EcoDC AB. In 2018, developer Areim acquired a majority stake in the company for approximately $22 million, and in 2019 merged it with Swedish operator Fortlax. The Swedish company currently operates five data centers at three sites. Earlier this year, it announced plans to build a new 150 MW EcoDataCenter 2 campus. The campus will be built in stages, with the first 20 MW unit completed in 2026.

Founded in 2017, CoreWeave initially specialized in crypto and blockchain technologies and actively invested in cloud projects, providing clients with access to accelerators. The company has raised $12 billion in investments and direct loans over the past two years and plans to spend $3.5 billion to expand its business in Europe, including Norway and the UK. By the end of 2024, the company expects to operate 28 facilities around the world, up from just 14 data centers last year.
