In the semiconductor segment for Japanese equipment manufacturers, 2022 was previously considered the most “fruitful” year, since the pandemic and shortages of semiconductor auto components stimulated the development of the industry, but the results of the first seven months of this year show that the country has reached a new record of $17.2 billion in revenues from supplies of equipment for chip production.

Firstly, this amount is 16.7% higher than last year. Secondly, it exceeds the previous maximum reached in 2022. In July of this year, as TrendForce notes with reference to the Japanese industry association SEAJ, the revenue of local chip production equipment suppliers increased by approximately 24% compared to the same month last year, to $2.4 billion. Revenue growth has been observed for seven months in a row, and it exceeded 10% in numerical terms for four months in a row. Over the course of nine months, revenue from the sale of equipment for the production of chips of Japanese origin exceeds $2 billion. Consistently, revenue in July increased by 1.2%.

Statistics from individual Japanese companies also confirm the general trend. According to Tokyo Electron, high demand for chips for artificial intelligence systems will contribute to the growth of the equipment market for their production by more than 5% to more than $100 billion. The international SEMI association expects that by the end of this year, revenue from the sale of equipment for the production of chips will increase by 3.4% to $109 billion.
