Publisher and developer Bandai Namco, in collaboration with Amazon Games, announced that the shareware online role-playing anime action game Blue Protocol will not live to see a Western release.
Let us remember that the Japanese version of Blue Protocol launched last June on PC, and in December it reached PS5, Xbox Series X and S. The Western release, which was to be published by Amazon Games, was planned for 2024.
As it became known, Blue Protocol will stop operating in Japan on January 18, 2025, but until that day the game will continue to receive content updates. The release of the international version of the game has been cancelled.
«We have had a strong relationship with Amazon Games throughout the development of Blue Protocol, and both of our teams are upset that we will not be able to bring the game to gamers around the world,” reads a message on the official website.
In the Japanese version of the announcement, Bandai Namco also stated: “We have been working diligently to prepare for release, but have come to the conclusion that we will not be able to provide a service that will satisfy all of you.”
Specific reasons for the closure of Blue Protocol were not given, but in Bandai Namco’s February financial report it reported a decline in performance compared to last year due to the new online game not meeting expectations.
Blue Protocol has been developed by Bandai Namco Online and Bandai Namco Studios since 2015. On its Japanese release, the project attracted more than 600 thousand people and for some time was considered the fastest growing project in the history of Bandai Namco online games.
