Modern technologies penetrate into the spheres of human activity and sport is no exception. One example of this is the new basketball court flooring at the BMW Park arena in Munich, home of local club FC Bayern. The standard wood flooring was replaced with a huge dynamic LED ASB GlassFloor screen on a permanent basis.
In fact, ASB GlassFloor, created by the German company of the same name, has been around for more than 10 years. However, previously such a screen was used only temporarily, laid on top of the usual wooden covering of closed areas. Now the manufacturer and the sports arena have entered into a contract until 2030 and the huge ASB GlassFloor screen will be used on an ongoing basis.
The ASB GlassFloor screen itself consists of millions of LEDs, which are located under a safety glass surface and supported by an underlying aluminum structure with a double spring. Using a special tablet with GlassCourt OS software, you can configure the screen to display standard basketball markings, animated advertising, match statistics or anything else.
ASB GlassFloor will be useful during training. An algorithm based on artificial intelligence can be used to display the current and optimal position of the players on the screen, as well as possible options for further development of the game, players’ running speed, etc. At the same time, the glass surface, according to the developers, is 2.5 times more elastic than parquet, and many Ceramic dots on its surface provide reliable grip and prevent basketball players from slipping.
The service life of the huge screen is 70 years, and the LEDs are at least 100 thousand hours. Unlike wooden floors, it also does not require periodic sanding. According to the source, ASB GlassFloor has been certified for use during competitions at the highest level.
