The Samsung Galaxy Ring cannot be repaired at all

Samsung recently released its first smart ring, simply named Galaxy Ring, which turned out to be perhaps the most impressive gadget at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Galaxy Ring promises to set a new trend in the health monitoring device market. iFixit specialists disassembled it and found that the device was “beyond repair.” If the ring breaks or the battery malfunctions, the device will be sent to a landfill.

The iFixit website notes that, as in the case of the Oura Ring series of smart rings, it is impossible to remove the battery from the Galaxy Ring without destroying it, which is clearly confirmed by a photograph of the gadget after disassembly.

«Compared to other modern electronic devices, this is a fairly simple device. There is nothing wrong with simplicity, but there is something wrong with non-repairability. Like the Galaxy Buds 3, the Galaxy Ring is a disposable tech accessory that is not designed to last more than two years,” according to IFixit engineers.

Samsung isn’t the only company to release tech products that can’t be repaired in recent weeks. Earlier this week, Google officially confirmed that the Pixel Watch 3 is beyond repair. If the watch breaks down, the company promises to provide a replacement watch.

Hopefully, in the near future, all countries will pass the necessary laws that will force technology companies to create repairable devices. It’s too wasteful to throw headphones, smart watches and smart rings into the trash just because their battery is dead.
