Western Digital has expanded its WD_Black SN850P series of NVMe solid-state drives with a new 8 TB model. A notable feature of the new product, in addition to its volume, is that it is officially certified for use with PlayStation 5 game consoles. Although, of course, no one will prohibit using the new product from a PC.

Previously, the WD_Black SN850P drive series included models with capacities up to 4 TB. The new 8 TB version is priced at $999.99, which is almost triple the price of the 4 TB model, which retails for $349.99. In addition, the new SSD is almost $150 more expensive than the WD_Black SN850X model of the same volume, but without a radiator.
The only physical difference between the SN850P and SN850X models with radiators is that the former is about 0.2 mm shorter than the latter, which makes it easier to install in the PlayStation 5. Despite this, the SN850X, even with a radiator, installs into the console without any problems. The problem is that there is no 8 TB SN850X model equipped with a heatsink.
The WD_Black SN850P 8 GB model has sequential read speeds of 7200 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 6600 MB/s. The performance in random read and write operations of the new product is 1.2 million IOPS. The manufacturer claims a resource of 4800 TBW (terabytes of overwritten information).
