Low demand for Ryzen 9000 in Europe led to prices falling below official prices in the first week of sales

Retailers in Germany have begun to reduce prices for Ryzen 9 9900X processors due to low demand. According to the French publication Hardware & Co, the cost of the Ryzen 9 9900X model, which recently went on sale, was expected to be €539 in Germany and slightly more expensive in France (due to VAT). However, to the surprise of the French media, German retailers immediately began marking down the specified processor, and it is currently selling for €499, which is 7.4% cheaper than its recommended price.

According to the VideoCardz portal, there is very strong competition in the German market in the sales segment of AMD processors. No other European country has so many official retailers of AMD products (data from the official website of AMD itself). This means that many of these stores operate on very low margins.

According to ComputerBase, the price range for various models of Ryzen 9000 processors in Germany should vary from €309 to €709, but sellers are already reducing prices on some chip models – they have fallen in price from 1.4 to 7.4% of the official price. In particular, the same brand new Ryzen 9 9900X is now offered for €499 ($446 excluding VAT).

It becomes clear that the Ryzen 9000 processors themselves did not generate significant enthusiasm from potential buyers, at least in Germany. As the first reviews show, the increase in performance, especially in gaming, is minimal for the new chips compared to the previous generation models.

If you look at the latest sales statistics from the same large German retailer Mindfactory, you can note that the network has so far sold not even hundreds, but only a few dozen new processors. So, according to the official website of the retailer (in the images above and below), the Ryzen 5 9600X model was sold in quantities of just over 20 units, the Ryzen 7 9700X model was bought by more than 50 people, the Ryzen 9 9900X model was bought by just over 10 people, and the flagship Ryzen model Just over 60 people bought 9 9950X.

As VideoCardz writes, in the United States, retailers, at least large ones, are not yet taking desperate measures in the form of reducing prices for processors. But prices for the Ryzen 9 9000 lineup will invariably be reduced in the coming months, since the pure gaming Ryzen 9000X3D is expected to appear soon.
