Recent updates to Microsoft Office 365 applications have resulted in an increase in crashes in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Programs crash while entering text, checking spelling, and performing other actions. Microsoft has officially confirmed the problem and published a document with details.
According to Neowin, the problem affects Office 2407 versions starting with build number 17830.20138 and higher. To confirm the presence of this error on their computer, users are advised to check the Windows Event Log for entries with codes 1000 or 1001.
Microsoft technicians note that the main cause of failures may be an outdated language pack. “This issue may occur if the language pack version is not updated to the current version,” the company said in an official statement.
To work around the problem, it is suggested to perform an online recovery of Office applications or reinstall language packs. Detailed instructions on how to complete these steps are available in the official Microsoft documentation at Recovering an Office application and Language Pack for Microsoft 365.
It is worth noting that the problem may manifest itself differently depending on the installed language packs. For example, for Italian the error file will be called mscss7it.dll, and for German mscss7de.dll.
Microsoft assures users that the Office team is actively working to investigate and resolve this issue. It is expected that an official update will be released soon, which will completely solve the problem.
