Lone developer Nathan Hamley, using the pseudonym Headware Games, has published a new trailer for the old-school survival horror Hollowbody. The video reveals the exact release date – the game will be released on September 12, 2024 on PC (Steam, GOG).
Hollowbody is a techno-noir survival horror game inspired by Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, Kuon, Rule of Rose and other classics of the genre from the early 2000s. The events take place in the near future in an abandoned British city, which, after a mysterious disaster, was surrounded by high walls and turned into an exclusion zone. The main character, black market courier Mika, goes there in search of her missing partner Sasha.
Users will explore locations from a third-person perspective (using a combination of dynamic and fixed camera), solve puzzles built into the environment, fight and survive in conditions of limited resources. Full voice acting, multiple endings, different difficulty levels and a New Game + mode are promised.
The recommended system requirements (high settings at 1080p) include an Intel Core i7-6950X and AMD Ryzen 7 2700X processor, 8 GB of RAM and a video card no worse than Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and AMD Radeon RX 5700.
Hollowbody has been in development for about three years. In the fall of 2022, the project was funded on Kickstarter. Donors donated almost £28,000 – 86% more than the author asked for. In addition, additional objectives were unlocked, including a new location, a first-person mode, mechanics for fans of the psychological horror Chasing Static (Hamley’s first 3D game) and an alternative look for Miki in the style of Motoko Kusanagi from the cult anime Ghost in armor” (Ghost in the Shell).
In the comments to the trailer, players said that they were looking forward to the release from the moment they got acquainted with the demo versions. The latter were highly appreciated by critics.
«Forget about the remake of Silent Hill 2, now this is my most anticipated survival horror game,” this is what journalist VG247 said about the demo.
«This game has everything I like about survival horror games of the early 2000s,” wrote user Marcanine in the comments to the video.
«I’ve been waiting for this game for years,” admitted Piratesi666.
