The retrofuturistic action platformer Replaced from the Polish studio with Belarusian roots Sad Cat yesterday became a victim of another transfer. To sweeten the bitter pill, the developers presented a video with an overview of the gameplay.
The events of Replaced will unfold in an alternative America of the 1980s. Players in the role of R.E.A.C.H. – an AI locked in a human body – must challenge the corruption and crime of Phenix City, and also find his place in the world.
In an almost 14-minute video from IGN, co-founder of Sad Cat Studios and director of Replaced Yuri Zhdanovich showed three gameplay excerpts from the game – escaping from the police, fighting with different types of enemies and peaceful exploration of the city.
According to Zhdanovich, cinematic platform sections, a combat system in the style of the Batman: Arkham games and free exploration of open locations at some stages of the plot form the gameplay basis of Replaced.
Zhdanovich also said that the team paid a lot of attention to the production: the camera’s reaction to what is happening, a seamless transition to gameplay, keeping editing cuts to a minimum, and so on.
It looks like the video showed the sections that selected journalists were allowed to play at the Summer Game Fest 2024 in June. The authors will bring a public demo to the gamescom 2024 exhibition (to be held from August 21 to 25 in Cologne).
Replaced is being created for PC (Steam, EGS, Microsoft Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S and Game Pass. As a result of the postponement, the release is expected only in 2025. The developers need more time to meet the expectations placed on the game.
