The continuation of the satirical role-playing game The Outer Worlds from Obsidian Entertainment was announced three years ago, but all this time nothing was heard about the project. The silence was broken by studio head Feargus Urquhart.
Let us remind you that The Outer Worlds 2 was presented at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in the summer of 2021. According to the debut trailer, at the time of the announcement, the developers only had the title of the game ready.
In a recent conversation with blogger Limit Break Network, Urquhart said that development on The Outer Worlds 2 is going “very well” and the game itself “looks incredible.” The manager is also “really impressed” with the project team.
According to Urquhart, Obsidian was able to assemble a smart team for The Outer Worlds 2 that understands what the game needs. It is led by several leading developers of the first part:
- Development director Matthew Singh (producer of the original game);
- Creative director Daniel Alpert – art director of The Outer Worlds;
- Lead programmer Leonard Boyarsky is the co-director of the first part.
Urquhart recalls that development of The Outer Worlds 2 gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic, which became a difficult period for the studio: “We were a pretty lousy developer for about a year and a half.”
Due to the abundance of projects in production (including DLC for The Outer Worlds, Grounded, Pentiment), the studio even thought about temporarily abandoning The Outer Worlds 2 for Avowed, but ultimately overcame their weakness.
The Outer Worlds 2 is being created for PC, Xbox Series X, S and Game Pass. There is no release date yet, as Obsidian is currently focusing on Avowed. As a result of the recent delay, the fantasy RPG is expected to release on February 18, 2025.
