Yesterday, the annual Made by Google event took place, during which the new smartphones Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold were shown to the general public, as well as other interesting new products, including Pixel Buds Pro 2 headphones and Pixel smart watches Watch 3. Against this background, Google curtailed sales of the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro smartphones and the company’s first folding smartphone, the Pixel Fold.

Google’s official store lists the original Pixel Fold as “no longer available.” This approach is unusual for the company, as it typically continued to sell previous-generation smartphones by lowering their prices. Moreover, the very link that leads to the Pixel Fold page now redirects to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold page. Google’s desire to focus buyers’ attention on the new foldable smartphone is understandable, since it has received quite a few improvements, as well as a large 8-inch main display.

Along with the Pixel Fold, sales of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have been discontinued. Both models have been selling alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for the past year, costing $599 and $899 respectively. However, the Pixel 7a smartphone can still be purchased for $499. In addition to this, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro also remain available for purchase at $699 and $999 respectively.
