Apple continues to develop an all-in-one iMac with a screen larger than 30 inches

Apple is still developing a new iMac with a screen diagonal of more than 30 inches, says Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, cited by the MacRumors portal. The potential date for the announcement of Apple’s new all-in-one PC is still unknown.

After Apple released the Mac Studio desktop PC and 27-inch Studio Display in March 2022, the company discontinued 27-inch Intel-based iMacs. Apple also placed the iMac Pro on its discontinued product list in March of the previous year. In November 2023, the company dashed hopes of a possible 27-inch iMac when it confirmed to multiple publications that it had no plans to release such a system.

Despite its best efforts to convince its users to purchase a combination of Mac Studio and Studio Display, there are rumors that Apple is still working on a new iMac with a larger screen. It is reported that the company began the initial stage of development of such a PC in mid-2023, but since then there has been no new information on this matter.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, it’s too early for Apple fans to despair. “The larger iMac model remains an issue Apple is exploring,” a columnist said in a recent major weekly report. He also noted that it remains unknown whether this device will use the latest Apple M4 processor. The company plans to release an updated 24-inch iMac model based on this processor this year. However, choosing this chip for a large iMac may be premature, given the current phase of development of a new PC – the chip may simply be outdated by the time the device is released.

Gurman announced that Apple was in the early stages of developing a new iMac with a display larger than 30 inches back in June 2023. Then he made the assumption that he would have to wait another year or two before the release of a new large all-in-one PC from the Apple company. In October of that year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expected a 32-inch iMac with a Mini-LED display to arrive in 2025.

The exact size of the device is still unknown, but all sources agree that the new iMac will measure over 30 inches. With a 32-inch screen, its dimensions will be comparable to the 6K Pro Display XDR monitor that Apple sells for $5,000. In terms of design, you can expect slimmer bezels and a look that matches the Studio Display on the new iMac.
