Taiwanese enterprises Micron and Nanya were left without electricity – the safety of the equipment is in question

According to Taiwanese media reported by TrendForce, this Tuesday around 1:35 p.m. local time, a power supply failure occurred in northern Taiwan, which could have affected semiconductor industry enterprises located in the region. The incident could have damaged equipment at the Nanya and Micron memory factories.

Taiwanese media reported that Nanya Technology’s factories in northern Taiwan experienced a 20-minute power outage, but a backup power system was activated for critical phases of production. For this reason, the photolithography and etching areas at these Nanya plants were expected to be minimally affected by the shutdown, and in production areas not equipped with such a system, possible damage is still being assessed.

The Micron Technology enterprise, as noted by Taiwanese sources, experienced a short-term voltage drop, and so far there is reason to hope that its activities were not affected by the incident. However, according to some rumors, parts of the company’s dry etching and immersion lithography equipment were damaged.

In any case, even if Nanya and Micron experienced disruption to their production processes in northern Taiwan, the available finished product inventories should be sufficient to ensure an uninterrupted supply to the companies’ customers.
