Google today unveiled a number of new products at its Made by Google 2024 event, including the Pixel 9. This is the base model of the new series and has flagship capabilities, including a powerful processor, Google’s suite of AI features, Satellite SOS and support for the Magic Editor.

Google Pixel 9 is built on the Tensor G4 processor, which includes an Arm Cortex-X4 core with increased performance, three Cortex-A720 cores, as well as four Cortex-A520 cores, a Mali-G715 graphics accelerator and an Exynos 5400 modem. The amount of RAM is 12 GB, which is important for local use of the Gemini Nano neural network.

The smartphone is equipped with a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display with FHD+ resolution (2424×1080 pixels), 120 Hz refresh rate and 2700 cd/m2 peak brightness. Google abandoned the optical fingerprint scanner in favor of a more reliable ultrasonic one built into the display. The display is protected from scratches by durable Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

At the top of the display there is a front camera with a 10.5-megapixel sensor made by Samsung. The “island” on the rear panel houses a main 50-megapixel 1/1.31-inch Samsung ISOCELL GNK sensor with support for optical stabilization and a 48-megapixel 1/2.55-inch ultra-wide-angle sensor with an improved close-up macro mode. The smartphone received the Add Me function, which allows you to combine two photos into one picture. Thanks to the use of AI, it will look like a regular group photo. Also reported are Night Sight features for astrophotography, Best Take, and more.

The 4700 mAh battery supports 45 W fast charging, which recharges up to 55% capacity in 30 minutes. Google’s new 45W USB-C charger comes separately. For protection against moisture and dust, the device complies with the IP68 standard.

Pixel 9 comes with Android 14 OS with an update to Android 15 coming soon. Google promises to provide OS and security updates for 7 years. It should be noted that the emergency satellite feature will only be available in the US. During the first two years the service will be provided free of charge.

Pixel 9 is available in four colors: Porcelain (porcelain), Peony (peony), Wintergreen (green) and Obsidian (black). Pixel 9 starts at $799.
