CD Projekt Red confirmed the next Witcher (codenamed Polaris) over two years ago, but still hasn’t clarified Geralt of Rivia’s status in the new game. The hero’s voice actor did this for the developers.
Let us remind you that Polaris is positioned as the beginning of a new saga for the series. The first and so far only teaser for the game (see image below) features a medallion from an unfamiliar witcher school, which clearly hinted at a change in the protagonist.
In a recent video for the YouTube channel Fall Damage, this was confirmed by American actor Doug Cockle, who gave the voice to the White Wolf in the English versions of CD Projekt Red games.
«The Witcher 4 has been announced, but I can’t say anything about it. We know that Geralt will be in the game, but not the scope of his role. The game will not focus on him, this time the story is not about him,” Cockle said.
Cockle doesn’t know who, if not Geralt, The Witcher 4 will be about and hastens to clarify that he hasn’t even seen the game’s script yet: “And even if I had seen it, I couldn’t say. The thing is that now I can lie and not blush. But I’m not lying. Or am I still lying?
Who will lead the new game is an open question. The most obvious option is Ciri, but to do this, some of The Witcher 3’s endings will have to be made canon. A scenario with a new witcher or user character is also possible.
Polaris is a large open-world RPG powered by Unreal Engine 5. The game is now a priority for CDPR – almost 65% of all studio employees are employed in it. Analysts predict a release in 2026 or even 2027.
