While the iPhone 16 release is just weeks away, Apple is already considering releasing a new iPhone in 2025. According to a report by journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the model could be called the “iPhone 17 Air” and replace the never-popular “Plus” model.

The iPhone 17 Air will presumably slot between the standard iPhone 17 and the more expensive iPhone 17 Pro. It is expected that the new product will be significantly thinner than regular iPhones, similar to the MacBook Air, which is lighter and thinner than the MacBook Pro.

As TechSpot notes, citing Gurman’s words, Apple plans to change the marketing strategy for the new iPhone to attract the attention of buyers. The device will be aimed at users who want “something flashier than the standard iPhone” but don’t need the extra performance, larger screen size or Pro-level cameras.

It is speculated that the new Air model, along with the 4th generation iPhone SE expected in early 2025, could help Apple expand the iPhone market and achieve significant growth next year. The company hopes that the Air will be more successful than the iPhone 12/13 mini and iPhone 14/15 Plus, which brought Apple a lot of disappointments. The long-term plan is to “pack the power of the Pro model into a smaller design”, although this is unlikely to happen before 2027. The possibility of releasing an iPhone “Ultra” as a flagship model, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra, is also being considered.

Although the exact timing of the release of new devices is not yet known, everything points to the relevance of Apple’s other plans, including the development of a foldable iPhone and, according to rumors, a foldable iPad.
