Apple’s smallest computer is expected to undergo major changes, says Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman. According to him, the next Mac mini will undergo the most significant redesign in the last ten years: “the device will be much smaller than its predecessor, approaching the size of the Apple TV set-top box.”
The company is testing a variant that has “at least” three USB Type-C ports and an HDMI output. The 2024 Mac mini will receive an upgrade to the Apple M4 processor, to which the company will gradually transfer its entire range of desktop computers and laptops. The M4 chip debuted in the latest iPad Pro, but it will soon appear in the Mac mini, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac and Mac Studio.
Apple last updated the Mac mini in 2023, offering two versions of the computer: one with the standard M2 chip and one with the more powerful M2 Pro. The company intends to continue this approach, and the new version of the computer will be available in M4 and M4 Pro configurations. Suppliers are preparing to start shipping the M4 variant as early as August, and the Mac mini with the M4 Pro processor will not be ready until October, Bloomberg sources say.
Over the past decade, the Apple Mac mini has not really undergone any fundamental changes – only the technical characteristics of the device have changed. The company will take a noticeable step forward by radically reducing the size of the computer.
