As it became known at QuakeCon 2024, official support for mods for Doom Eternal is not only just around the corner, but is already knocking on the door: a beta version of the mod browser and the idStudio tool for creating them is available on Steam.

The Doom Eternal launcher allows you to view mods (you can also find them through the Bethesda website), download (in a user-defined order) and delete them (including from the installation history), as well as launch idStudio.

In turn, the idStudio editor allows users to create models, maps, animations and other elements for Doom Eternal. The tool comes with its own set of system requirements.

IdStudio’s requests for storage space (from 200 to 500 GB) are determined by the set of materials that the modder will want to install:

Minimum Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 (64 bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 with 4.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 with 3.7 GHz;
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8 GB);
  • RAM: 32 GB;
  • Disk space: 200 GB.

Recommended Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 (64 bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i9 with 3.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 9 with 4.7 GHz;
  • Video card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (12 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT (12 GB);
  • RAM: 64 GB;
  • Disk space: 500 GB.

For now, the beta version of mod support for Doom Eternal is only available on Steam, but will soon appear in the Microsoft Store. id Software says nothing about plans to connect consoles to the initiative.

In addition to open beta support for mods for Doom Eternal, at QuakeCon 2024 the developers announced the release of the Doom + Doom 2 collection with improved versions of the first two games in the cult series.
