Balatro’s path to “one billion” copies sold, as outlined by publisher Playstack, continues. The psychedelic poker roguelike from Canadian developer LocalThunk has reached a new sales peak.
Let us remind you that in the first three days, total sales of Balatro amounted to 250 thousand copies, after 10 days they exceeded half a million copies, and at the end of the first month after release they reached one million.
As it became known, in less than six months from the release (the game will turn six months old on August 20), Balatro has already sold 2 million copies on all target platforms.
«When I started development three years ago, I couldn’t even imagine that 2 million people would play Balatro. “I’m so grateful to everyone who gave it a chance and I’m excited to show everyone the next chapter of my game,” LocalThunk said.
By the next chapter of Balatro, the developer means three announcements planned for the “next couple of months.” The first of them is a major gameplay update, announced for release in 2025.
«This update will bring new ideas and strategies, will be released on all platforms, and as a huge sign of gratitude to the amazing and passionate community of the game, will be completely free,” assured LocalThunk.
Balatro was released on February 20 on PC (610 rubles on Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S and Nintendo Switch, and now a mobile version is in the works. On the Valve site, the game has a rating of 97% and more than 39 thousand “extremely positive” reviews.
