Google Home will soon have new features, such as automating tasks through text and voice commands, voicing events captured by the Nest security camera, and an updated Google Assistant with an all-new voice and improved ability to understand the context of messages.
Ahead of the fall unveiling of new devices, Google announced three new features for its smart home platform, based on the capabilities of Gemini artificial intelligence. These innovations, scheduled to launch later this year, promise to make managing Google Home easier and more efficient.
The first feature is intelligent video analysis from Nest security cameras. Now Nest will be able not only to recognize people and objects, but also to generate detailed descriptions of what is happening. Instead of a simple notification about the movement of objects, the user will receive a text description, for example: “A young man in casual clothes is standing next to a parked black SUV. He is carrying bags of groceries. The car is partially garaged and the environment seems quite calm.” The algorithm will allow you to quickly understand the essence of the event without watching the entire video.
The second feature, “Help me create,” will allow you to create automated scripts (routines) using voice or text commands. For example, you could say, “Close the doors and turn off the lights before going to bed,” and Google Home will create a corresponding scenario.
The third innovation concerns improvements to the basic functions of Google Assistant on Nest smart speakers and displays. The assistant will have a new voice with different styles and accents, and will also be able to support more natural dialogue, understanding pauses and interjections. There will also be improvements to the app’s core capabilities, such as playing music and setting timers on all current Nest smart speakers and displays.
Anish Kattukaran, head of product at Google Home, said that “this is just the beginning of Gemini’s AI adoption in the smart home platform, paving the way for the next era of Google Home.” He also noted that the company is deliberately taking its time and will gradually improve Google Home options to avoid even the smallest mistakes.
