300 km range in 5 minutes: XPeng S5 800 kW ultra-fast charging introduced

Chinese automaker XPeng Motors has announced a new generation of electric vehicle charging stations that will hit the market later this quarter. The latest liquid-cooled S5 charging station is capable of delivering up to 800 kW of power, allowing you to recover enough energy to travel more than 300 km in just 5 minutes of charging.

The ultra-fast charging station S5 was presented a few days ago by XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng. During the special event, he said that the S5 station provides an output current of 800 A and a voltage of 1000 V. From the moment the electric vehicle is connected to the station, it takes less than 13 seconds to start charging.

«This means you can get more than 300 km of range in just five minutes of charging, which is very fast and efficient,” Mr. He said during the presentation.

Currently, the most powerful charging station in XPeng’s arsenal is the S4, which will hit the market in 2022. According to the developers, it provides a range of 210 km in five minutes of charging. Station S4 produces up to 480 kW of power with a maximum current of 670 A.

By the end of July, XPeng’s network consisted of 1,300 charging stations, 1,000 of which were ultra-fast S4s. By 2024, the company plans to deploy 10 thousand autonomous charging stations, of which 4,500 will be ultra-fast S5.
