Apple has officially confirmed plans to integrate ChatGPT into its devices by the end of this year. Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “ChatGPT will be integrated by the end of the calendar year.”
Apple first announced integration of ChatGPT into its devices during a keynote at WWDC in June, and Cook’s comment indicates that this timeline remains in effect as of the first week of August. According to Macrumors, iPhone, iPad and Mac users will be able to use ChatGPT through the Siri voice assistant and Apple Writing Tools feature. The integration will generate text and images using the latest OpenAI GPT-4o model.
Apple emphasizes that ChatGPT will be free to use and will not require creating an OpenAI account, but ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to connect their accounts to access paid features. The company also assures that OpenAI will not store user requests and their IP addresses will be hidden.
Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, or a Mac or iPad with an M1 chip or later. Initially, only English will be supported, however, support for other languages will appear somewhat later, over the next year.
The full set of Apple Intelligence features is expected to be available with the release of iOS 18.4 around March 2025. The new technology will allow users to summarize text, manage notifications, generate emoji and images using AI, and use an improved version of Siri with a deeper understanding of the context of speech.
Let’s remember that earlier this week, Apple Intelligence features became available to developers for testing in the beta version of iOS 18.1, but ChatGPT integration from OpenAI is not there yet.
