LG and Samsung have developed dual micro-OLED displays – they will be suitable for the Apple Vision Pro 2

The iPad Pro released this year on the Apple M4 chip features, as the manufacturer claims, “the world’s most advanced display” Tandem OLED – two OLED panels superimposed on each other. LG and Samsung have managed to replicate this solution at the micro-OLED level, meaning Vision Pro 2 displays can get even better.

LG and Samsung have successfully created prototypes of micro-OLED Tandem OLED displays, reports the Korean publication Sisa Journal, and now both companies are looking for customers whose orders would help launch mass production of such screens. A promising target for this technology is Apple’s next-generation Vision Pro augmented reality headset. The modern version of the device uses a micro-OLED display from Sony and is considered the most expensive component of the device.

The two Korean electronics giants would certainly like to capture the market segment for future Apple Vision products themselves, and Tandem OLED displays for virtual reality headsets could give them a key advantage. In the case of the iPad Pro, Apple noted that the two OLED panels allow for full-screen brightness of 1000 cd/m² for SDR and HDR content, as well as a peak brightness of 1600 cd/m² for HDR. The solution allows you to change the brightness of each pixel in a fraction of a millisecond. If you believe unofficial information, Apple is now busy developing a less expensive version of the virtual reality headset, but in 2-3 years the updated version of Vision Pro could well have Tandem OLED displays.
