Virtuix has announced that the Omni One virtual reality treadmill will go on sale this September. The device was announced almost four years ago. The company initially planned to release it by the end of 2021, but this did not happen. All this time, Omni One was in development.
Unlike other virtual treadmills, Omni One is an All-in-One device. The package includes a virtual reality headset. Initially, Omni One was supposed to come with the Pico Neo 2 VR headset. However, given the long development of the device, the headset was replaced with a more modern Pico 4 Enterprise, with the function of tracking the user’s eyes and face, as well as faster RAM.
The included Pico 4 Enterprise VR headset does not support the Pico App Store. Instead, Virtuix has provided support for its own app store, the Omni Store, which includes apps designed specifically for the Omni One treadmill.
According to Virtuix, the Omni Store will offer over 50 different treadmill games when the Omni One launches. The list includes games such as Alvo, Ancient Dungeon, Breachers, Death Horizon: Reloaded, Drop Dead: The Cabin, Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Hubris, Ilysia, In Death: Unchained, Journey to Foundation , Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, Propagation: Paradise Hotel, Ruinsmagus, Sniper Elite VR, Survival Nation, The Exorcist: Legion VR and Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate.
It should also be clear that the Omni One is not technically a treadmill, despite Virtuix calling it that. The Omni One does not have a belt drive. Instead, using the device requires wearing special shoes that slide over the concave disc-shaped base of the Omni One, as well as special straps that will hold the user in place.
The Omni One costs $2,595. In addition to the treadmill, the package includes a VR headset, special sliding shoes, two leg movement monitoring sensors and a pair of controllers. The system will be sold only in the USA. To place an order for the device, you will need to make a deposit of $200.
