Nothing has introduced the Phone (2a) Plus smartphone, which is an improved version of the Phone (2a) that debuted in March. The new product differs from its predecessor in an updated hardware platform and an improved 50-megapixel front camera, and is also offered in two new color options – metallic gray and updated black.
The main innovation was the Dimensity 7350 Plus single-chip platform. In fact, it is an overclocked version of the Dimensity 7200 Pro chip that powers the Phone (2a). The new platform has also been created by MediaTek in collaboration with Nothing and will be exclusive to Phone (2a) Plus.
The new chip features an eight-core CPU with two Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 3.0 GHz and six Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. The GPU is the same – Mali-G610 MC4, but now it operates at 1.3 GHz. Nothing says you can expect a 10 percent CPU speedup and a 30 percent boost in GPU-intensive tasks.
The second important difference between the Phone (2a) Plus is the new 50-megapixel front camera, which replaces the 32-megapixel front camera in the Phone (2a). The new sensor supports 4K video recording at up to 30 frames per second. It still sits inside the notch on the 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. On the back panel there is the same set of 50-megapixel main camera and 50-megapixel wide-angle module.
The Phone (2a) Plus has a 5,000mAh battery with support for 50W wired fast charging, which is slightly more than the 45W of the Phone (2a). The software platform is Nothing OS 2.6 based on Android 14 with ChatGPT integration and a new News Reporter widget that reads the news out loud in the voice of Nothing CFO Tim Holbrow. This feature is also available for other Nothing phones through the Nothing Widgets app from the Google Play Store.
The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus costs $399 or £399 for the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Pre-orders in the US and UK begin today at nothing.tech.
Retailer Nothing Store in London’s Soho will begin offering Phone (2a) Plus from 3 August. Buyers in the United States will be able to receive the device from August 7, where Nothing smartphones are still distributed as part of the beta testing program in the United States. Nothing will announce the release date of the new product in other markets later.
