Chinese media report that Erying has unveiled new Polestar motherboards equipped with soldered-in 14th generation Intel Core mobile processors. Heat-distribution covers are installed on top of the chips, which allow them to be used with cooling systems designed for desktop PCs.
The boards are equipped with Core-HX (Raptor Lake Refresh) processors. They have characteristics similar to their desktop counterparts, but use BGA packaging. Before purchasing such a kit, you should keep in mind that if the motherboard or processor breaks down, it will not be possible to replace one or the other. You’ll have to change the whole thing. In addition, such systems will have very limited additional overclocking capabilities.
The presented boards are equipped with two PCIe connectors. One operates in PCIe 4.0 x16 mode, the other in PCIe 4.0 x4 mode. There will be a choice of board models equipped with Core i7-14650HX (8P+8E), Core i7-14700HX (8P+12E) or Core i9-14900HX (8P+16E) processors. Erying says the chips have a PL1/PBP (base power) rating of up to 150W, and their PL2/MTP (Maximum Turbo Power) rating of up to 165W.
The new products are made in Micro-ATX format and are equipped with four DDR5 UDIMM connectors with support for DDR5-5600 memory. The company claims the ability to install up to 192 GB of RAM. The boards also received two M.2 connectors for NVMe drives (one PCIe 4.0, the other PCIe 3.0). The rear panel of the boards has one DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 connector, four USB Type-A (5 Gbps), two USB 2.0 and one USB Type-C (10 Gbps). In addition, they are equipped with 2.5 Gbit network adapters. There is also support for Wi-Fi 6E.
The cost of the products and their release date have not been announced. Similar solutions, but based on previous generations of processors, have already been found on various Chinese online trading platforms.
