Chinese role-playing detective Kill the Shadow has been announced, reminiscent of a mixture of Disco Elysium and The Last Night

Publisher 663 Games and developers from the Chinese studio Shadowlight Sanctuary have announced a joint project – the role-playing detective Kill the Shadow, combining two-dimensional characters and a three-dimensional environment.

The events of Kill the Shadow will unfold in a fictional post-war city with an oriental flavor. Players will take on the role of detective Ah’Guang, who is investigating a series of mysterious murders.

In his search for the truth, the hero will be helped by the Shadow – a strange creature constantly following him, who can read into someone else’s memory and reproduce traces of the dead.

«Find the city’s lost memories and piece together information about its division ten years ago. Reveal the truth – kill, condemn or kiss (?) the organizer of all this,” the authors describe the available possibilities.

Players will be free to choose how to level up the three main characteristics (strength, spirit, charm) and methods of investigation: be it psychological pressure, brute force or deduction.

Gameplay

The sources of inspiration are not disclosed, but outwardly Kill the Shadow resembles The Last Night, Replaced and other platformers with a combination of 2D and 3D, and the main character seems to be inspired by Disco Elysium – also an alcoholic detective with cockroaches in his head.

Kill the Shadow is expected to release throughout the remainder of 2024 exclusively on PC (Steam). The Valve service page currently states that it only supports English and Chinese (traditional and simplified) languages.
