Representatives of Samsung Electronics management and representatives of the company’s largest employee union, which is holding an indefinite strike due to dissatisfaction with the level of wages and benefits provided, held talks today. However, this meeting was not successful and, apparently, the strike by employees of the South Korean manufacturer will continue.
Lee Hyun-kuk, vice president of the Samsung Electronics National Union, said the gap between the two sides was too wide for any agreement to be reached. The union called on the company to submit a new proposal to resolve the situation by July 29, and negotiations themselves could last until July 31. Let us remind you that about 30 thousand employees of the South Korean division of Samsung are members of the National Trade Union, which is almost a quarter of the company’s total personnel in the country.
Analysts say a prolonged strike by key staff that began earlier this month will add to the woes of Samsung, the world’s largest memory chip maker, which is struggling to compete in semiconductor products for artificial intelligence systems. Despite the ongoing strike, Samsung said there were no disruptions to its chip production.
