The open-world crime thriller Grand Theft Auto VI instills fear in competitors even before its release, but the French publisher Ubisoft is not afraid of the release of a new hit by Rockstar Games – quite the contrary.

The issue of the upcoming release of GTA VI was raised as part of Ubisoft’s recent financial report. General Director Yves Guillemot spoke about the company’s attitude to the main game release of 2025.

«We usually see that when GTAs are released, interest in games increases. So overall this is a positive development for the market. It sounds counterintuitive, but overall it’s good for us,” Guillemot said.

Ubisoft already has experience launching games in the new GTA area. In 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag came out a month after GTA V’s initial release and, according to Ubisoft, achieved record sales at the time.

Guillemot added that Ubisoft’s games overall had “very good sales” in the wake of GTA V in 2013, as well as the release of GTA V for PS5, Xbox Series X and S in March 2022.

It is unclear which Ubisoft projects will compete with GTA VI. The company has not yet presented its lineup for 2025, but is preparing remakes of Splinter Cell and several Assassin’s Creed games, new Far Cry, Beyond Good and Evil 2, The Division 3 and other projects.

GTA VI is expected to premiere in the fall of 2025 in versions for PS5, Xbox Series X and S. It is worth noting that Rockstar games often do not release on time – GTA IV, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 were postponed at least once before release.
